Hi Everyone,
I hope you are doing well, I am doing good. This week I feel we lost a true American Hero. I am so inspired by her work and how she changed the world for people with intellectual disabilities. Eunice came from so much wealth and power but she used it for the betterment of people like her sister Rosemary and my mother. Most people in that position abuse the power and privilege, but God instilled a sense of compassion in her that many people never receive. She inspires me to keep on fighting for the Humane rights for the mentally ill. In her words she said it all.“The right to play on any playing field? You have earned it. The right to study in any school? You have earned it. The right to hold a job? You have earned it.” “The right to be anyone’s neighbor?” “You have earned it!” That's right Eunice everyone deserses the right to be a member of society and thrown away in a dark room with the door locked. You broke those barriers and you truly were an Angel on Earth. The picture above is a painting made for her a couple of years ago. I think it speaks volumes about what she did, she brought light into the lives of so many.

Thank you my friend for posting this. Funny how other people that pass, like the commercial guy with Orange GLO got more media than Eunice. She was a strong woman, and used herself for knowledge and enlightenment, under the radar. She was always behind the scenes promoting the cause instead of herself. She raised her family to do the same, even when the media tried to focus on the celebrity, the Shriver family stuck to the cause! Thanks for the great post friend!

ReplyDeleteIt says a lot about our country when an ad person gets more attention than such a wonderful and inspiring woman like Mrs. Shriver.
I do so hope we will see a documentary made of her life and her legacy!!
As one who faces prejudice everyday due to dealing with mental illness I am just so glad that you are pursuing this.
We still suffer great prejudice from the majority in our society. I get so tired of hearing if I only had enough faith then all would be okay.
My issues are just as physical as someone who is a diabetic. They just effect my brain as opposed to my pancreas.
They are genetic, I did inherit them and they are detectable via brain scan.
She will be sorely missed by those of us she fought for. I hope someone will pick up her mighty sword, light it, and march forward with it!!
